The Recipe for Successful Client Relationships

The ingredients for successful client relationships are as follows:

  • 1 Cup Honesty
  • 1 Cup Integrity
  • 1 Cup Open Communication

Of course, you also need great technology, engineering talent, and process. Building long lasting relationships and leveraging strong interpersonal skills are the difference makers between a good client relationship and a great client relationship.

Sometimes, it’s hard to measure client service success. Yes, you can do customer service surveys and you can also touch base with clients regularly to ask for their feedback but these aren’t always feasible.  In my opinion, one measure of your client service success is how often the client has to reference their contract.  In my experience, the less a client has to refer back to a contract to check SLA’s, terms and conditions, processes, etc- the better! The more informed a client is, the greater the victory. If clients have to reference their contracts, that usually means the service provider is not holding up their end of the bargain or not performing at the level they should.

At the end of the day, a true partnership is doing what is right while genuinely caring about the outcome and impact this sale will have on their business.

Now that’s something to sink your teeth into.
