OMAHA, Neb. – August 9, 2016 – First National Technology Solutions (FNTS), the recognized leader in the managed IT services industry, today announced it is Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) 3.1 Certified. Recognizing the importance of a proactive security approach, FNTS maintains compliance with the highest standards to ensure its customers’ data is always safe, secure and available.

“As an industry leader, FNTS goes beyond the basic industry requirements by keeping up with the newest versions of standards,” said Rob LaMagna-Reiter, director of information security at FNTS. “Because each PCI DSS release addresses new security risks, our facilities stay up to date not simply to avoid penalties, but to reduce risks and protect payment card transactions and processing systems.”

According to the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), “PCI DSS is the global data security standard adopted by the payment card brands for all entities that process, store or transmit cardholder data and/or sensitive authentication data.” While PCI DSS 3.1 includes minor clarifications and additions, the standard was primarily released to address the insecurity of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and some Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption protocols. According to the new standards, all SSL and early TLS versions are no longer considered to be strong cryptography and merchants must not implement new technology that relies on SSL or early TLS.

“Unfortunately, many companies do not keep up with compliance levels, leaving both corporate and consumer information at risk,” said LaMagna-Reiter. “While FNTS has become certified in PCI DSS 3.1, we are already working on achieving PCI DSS 3.2 compliance that was just released a few months ago.”
